One Minute on the Canal

A single unbroken 60-second shot: a small red-sailed boat drifts down a willow-lined canal, under a high stone bridge and past a moored rowing boat.

A small wooden sailboat with a red sail drifts down a willow-lined canal on a summer afternoon, passes under a high stone bridge with its mast clearing the arch, and slides past a moored rowing boat and a stretch of reeds, all in one unbroken minute. The Wavemaker agent made it from a short brief, with natural sound of water, wind and birds and no music.

To make your own, describe the subject, what it passes and how the camera moves, and ask for one shot. Here the agent made stills of the boat and the canal at points along the way, then rendered linked clips, each carried on from the last and each ending on a still it had checked, so the boat, the sail and the canal hold for the whole minute. It mixed the clips' own sound under seamless water and wind beds and reviewed the finished file. The download holds the finished shot.

How this example was made

  1. Planned the route Stills of the boat and the canal at points along the way: the bridge, the moored boat and the reeds.
  2. Rendered linked clips Each clip carries on from the last and ends on a checked still, so the minute plays as one shot.
  3. Kept the camera travelling A steady sideways track beside the boat, with the moored boat and the banks sliding past together.
  4. Seamless sound The clips' own water sound under continuous water, willow-wind and bird beds, with no music.
  5. Reviewed and revised Given a full review of picture, sound and the brief, then revised on the owner's notes on the opening and the moored boat.

Real and generated. Generated: the boat, the canal, the motion and the sound.

Known limit. Just after the bridge, from about 31 to 33 s, the camera seems to pause, and the sailboat grows about 3 to 4% over the last 27 seconds.
