Milo and the Still Water
A 24-second film in seven shots: a small delivery robot sees still water for the first time, leans over its reflection, and comes back the next day.
Milo, a small delivery robot, walks into a sunlit courtyard and finds a reflecting pool. It leans over its own reflection, a leaf lands and ripples it, and it folds its umbrella under the olive tree before walking out, looking back once. The Wavemaker agent made it from a short brief and two pictures, Milo with its umbrella and the courtyard, with two narrated lines over acoustic guitar.
To make your own, attach your character and your place and describe the beats. Here the agent made reference pictures of Milo from the front, side and back, the umbrella open and folded, and the courtyard from the arch and from the pool, then built every shot from the ones that fit it. It planned the courtyard's layout once so the walk to the pool cuts together as one continuous move, kept the umbrella in the same hand, designed a narrator voice, and reviewed the finished file. The download holds the two starting pictures and the finished film.
How this example was made
- Made reference pictures first Milo from the front, side and back, the umbrella open and folded, and the courtyard from the arch and from the pool.
- Planned the geography One layout for the arch, the pool and the olive tree, with the camera kept on one side so the walk to the pool reads as one move.
- Animated seven shots The walk in, the lean over the reflection, the leaf's ripple, the fold under the tree and the walk out.
- Voice and music Two narrated lines in a designed voice over an acoustic score, with the footsteps kept under them.
- Reviewed and revised Given a full review of picture, sound and the brief, then revised over two rounds of the owner's notes on the walk, the pool, the grip, Milo's head and the courtyard.
Real and generated. Generated: the pictures of Milo and the courtyard, the motion, the voice and the music.
Known limit. As it leaves, Milo looks back by turning its head all the way round while its body keeps walking (20.5 to 22.3 s), and a second tiny antenna pin shows on its head in the first wide shot.
